Defying the Odds Scholarship
Purpose
The Tracey Lynn Foundation is committed to supporting individuals who are beginning a new career path through education, training, and perseverance. This scholarship is designed to provide new students with a head start and financial support as they pursue training in a skilled trade, technical program, or career-focused educational pathway.
Inspired by the message in the book Defying the Odds, this scholarship recognizes individuals who demonstrate determination, resilience, and the courage to pursue their goals despite obstacles.
Qualifications
The scholarship is open to applicants who meet the following criteria:
• Must reside in Hampton Roads, Virginia
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be a new student beginning training or education in a trade, technical, or career program
Scholarship Award
Five (5) students will be awarded a scholarship of:
$1,000 each
The scholarship is intended to support students as they begin their career training or educational program.
Application Period
The online scholarship application will be open:
April 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026
Applicants must submit their application through the Tracey Lynn Foundation website.
Notification
All scholarship recipients will be notified in May 2026.
Recipients will have 6 months to begin their training or educational program and utilize the scholarship.
Recipients will be notified via email or postal mail.
Application Requirements
Essay
Applicants must submit a 500-word essay addressing the following topic:
Describe why you are pursuing your chosen career path and how perseverance, determination, or life challenges have shaped your journey toward achieving your goals.
You may also describe how your personal experiences reflect the theme of “Defying the Odds.”
Photo or Video Submission
Applicants must also submit either a photo or a short video introducing themselves and sharing their career goals.
